The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) was established in November 1993 as an autonomous society under the Ministry of Earth Sciences in India. NIOT is managed by a Governing Council and is headed by a director. The institute is based in Chennai.

The major aim of starting NIOT was to develop reliable indigenous technologies to solve various engineering problems associated with harvesting of non-living and living resources in India’s exclusive economic zone, which is about two-thirds of the land area of India.

Positions :- Technician/Scientific Assistant

Job Location :- Chennai

Salary :- 

• Technician–Gr. A: Pay Level 2 (Rs.19900-63200)
• Scientific Assistant-Gr.A: Pay Level 06 (Rs.35400-112400)
• Scientific Assistant-Gr.B /Technical Officer: Pay Level 07 (Rs.44900-142400)

Qualification :-

Technician – Gr. A:

• 10th Class Pass (Secondary/Matric) of a recognized Board and ITI course in Electronics/ Instrumentation/ Welder/Mechanical/Fitter (Mechanical) /approved by National Council for Vocational Training or equivalent from recognized Institutions.
• Basic knowledge of computer
• Desirable: Experience of two years in the relevant field in relation to the job requirements.

Scientific Assistant-Gr.A (Mechanical)

• Three (03) years Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
  Basic knowledge of computer
• Desirable: Not less than 2 years of experience in handling fabrication, assembly and testing mechanical system for sub-sea or surface applications, quality control management for such systems or operation and maintenance, dry docking or execution of projects in the area of ocean technology and engineering

Scientific Assistant – Gr.-A (Electrical):

• Three (03) years of Diploma in Electrical Engineering (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
• Basic knowledge of computer
• Desirable: Not less than 2 years of experience in Assembly, Integration and testing of drives, transformers, motor, switch gears pertinent to subsea/process/heavy industry.

Scientific Assistant – Gr.-A (Electronics and Communication Engineering):

• Three (03) years of Diploma in Electronics & Instrumentation/ Electronics & Communication /Telecommunication Engineering (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
• Basic knowledge of computer
• Desirable: Not less than 2 years experience relating to design, preparation of P&ID, specifications, procurement, installation, commissioning and monitoring of the overall electronics, instrumentation and control systems of the project

Scientific Assistant – Gr.-A (Life Sciences):

• First Class B.Sc., Degree in Zoology (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
• Basic knowledge of computer.
• Desirable: M.Sc., degree in Zoology & Not less than 2 years of research experience in R&D laboratory.

Scientific Assistant-Gr.B /Technical Officer (Mechanical) :

• Three (03) years of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
• Basic knowledge of computer
• Desirable: Not less than 3 years of experience in drafting/fabrication/assembly & integration/ maintenance of mechanical systems in marine/process/heavy industry

Scientific Assistant Gr.-B / Technical Officer (Electrical):

• Three (03) years of Diploma in Electrical Engineering (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
• Basic knowledge of computer
• Desirable:
  • Not less than 3 years experience in the areas of operation / maintenance of large electrical power systems for onshore installations/ships/offshore platforms and/or subsea applications, viz. underwater vessels/systems/vehicles.
  • Experience in integration/assembly/testing/operation and maintenance of marine and subsea medium voltage electrical systems, power transmission systems, motor controllers, and medium voltage high frequency systems.
  • Knowledge of use of electrical CAD.

Scientific Assistant – Gr.-B / Technical Officer (Electronics & Communication Engineering):

• Three (03) years of Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering/Electronics and Instrumentation (with 60% marks) or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized Board or University.
• Basic knowledge of computers
• Desirable: 
  • Not less than 3 years experience in the areas of marine electronics, data acquisition, underwater acoustics systems integration and testing
  • Fibre optic splicing / preparing and effecting connectors and maintenance of FO communication equipment & systems.
  • Testing and calibration of underwater sensors and transducers, testing and repairing of PCB board
  • Knowledge of use of electrical CAD
